Balsamic Strawberries Appetizer

This is as simple as you can get, if you want to serve fruit as an appetizer. We are adding balsamic vinegar to fresh berries for a tart/sweet finish, plus adding sugar and black pepper to round it out.

Servings: 4
Course: Appetizer

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 pound (450g) halved, hulled fresh strawberries
  • 1/4 cup (50g) white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method

  1. Drizzle the vinegar over the strawberries in a bowl.
  2. Sprinkle over the sugar.
  3. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Cover and let the mixture sit at room temperature for between 1 and 4 hours
  5. Just before serving, grind black pepper over the berries.
  6. Serve your balsamic strawberries with crackers, toasted bread or even cheese, as you prefer.

Notes

Sometimes I like to throw in grilled strawberries or tomatoes, for additional texture and flavor.
